„The Paterik of Kievan Caves Monastery” and Polish-east Slavic contacts

The article is an analysis of the information on anxiety in Poland in the 11th century, as noted down in Russian sources, that in the 12th century chronicle the Tale o f Bygone Years, the Life of Moisej the Hungarian at the Paterik o f Kievan Caves Monastery, a collection of stories from the lives of monks of the Kievan Caves Monstery, whose original version was created in the 13th century. Probably this piece of information was also included in the Life of Antonij Pecerskij, created in the 11th century, however it has not been preserved to our times. It is probable that the common source for the aforementioned items was a tale about the Russian princess Predslava who was kidnapped to Poland in 1018. Those sources claim that the anxiety in Poland arose just after Boleslav I the Brave died, which is mentioned in the Tale o f Bygone Years under 1030. However, the Polish science claims that so called pagan revolution related to social affairs took place at the moment of collapse of the state of Poland. This event dates back to 1036-1037 or 1037-1038. Having analysed the records of the old Russian chronicle and the stories from the lives of monks of the Kievan Caves Monastery it results that transfer of some information from one source to another was very smooth, thus it is sometimes impossible to investigate the origin source
